Truflow recently delivered a fully electric bus spray booth for the South Australian Public Transport Authority (SAPTA), supporting the state’s transition to a zero-emissions public transport fleet.
As part of the Department for Infrastructure and Transport’s commitment to sustainability, existing infrastructure needed to align with strict zero-emissions requirements. This included replacing traditional gas-powered systems with advanced electric spray booth technology.
The Challenge
SAPTA required an Australian partner with proven engineering capability and Australian-made spray booth solutions to design and build a large-scale facility. The project involved a 25m x 6m x 6m heated spray and bake booth, capable of reaching a traditional bake temperature of 60°C, without relying on gas, making it fully electric.
The Truflow Solution
Over the past 24 months, Truflow has been at the forefront of zero-emissions spray booth R&D, developing innovative systems for the automotive industry that could be scaled to meet large infrastructure demands.
For this project, Truflow engineered a customised solution incorporating:
Multi-stage electric heating elements for precise temperature control
- Pre-heat and post-heat systems to optimise energy efficiency
- Pre-heating ambient air before entering the Air Handling Unit (AHU)
- Post-heating to maintain consistent bake cycle temperatures during recirculation
- Energy recovery mode during bake cycles to reduce power consumption
- Low-energy consumption operation with phased electric element control
- Airflow speed management to adapt to different operational modes
- Full in-ground pit and underfloor extraction system
- Compliant, separate paint storage area
- Designed to meet tight, site-specific requirements
The Outcome
The project was successfully handed over in May, marking a significant milestone in electric spray booth innovation and sustainable infrastructure in Australia.
“Handed over in May, this spray booth is a landmark achievement for both Truflow and the Australian Government in zero emissions technology.”
— Chris Spencer, Group GM, Truflow Spray Booths
Looking Ahead
Truflow’s fully electric spray booth range is now available nationwide, providing a future-ready solution for organisations aiming to meet their 2030 zero-emissions targets while improving operational efficiency and sustainability.
